Tuesdays - 18:00 - Parklands Community Centre, GL52 5PR - Outdoor Class

Let's face it - adolescence can be tough!

Many owners face a regression in their training, with puppies seemingly forgetting everything previously taught. This is the stage in development when most puppies are rehomed, as owners struggle to work through the intensity of undesirable behaviours or the new ones which may pop up unexpectantly. Do not worry - it does not last forever, and more often than not, it is a phase that passes with time and consistency.

If you have been to a puppy class, you may feel embarrassed to ask for help again, especially when your puppy aced the training at the time! I want to reassure you that there are always options available to manage, prevent and improve behaviours in your teenage dog - and I am here to help.

By joining this class, you will be developing your skills alongside other owners going through similar experiences as you. It is a supportive space where learning occurs on both ends of the leash, with exercises customisable to suit you and your dog's abilities. With this set-up, we can look at common behaviours - such as jumping up at strangers - in a controlled environment to set all adolescents up for success as they become well-adjusted adult dogs.

Week 6 will involve going to Hatherley Park, GL51 3AL to allow the class to practice the real-life application of learning.

1 month following the end of the programme, a social meet will be organised at Pittville Park on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon (depending on availability of class members @ £10 per dog). This is an opportunity to allow dogs to socialise, where appropriate, and enjoy a walk around the park testing their new skills!

This class covers:

  • Adolescence: What is it all about about?

  • Boredom busters

  • Resisting temptations

  • Recall around distractions

  • Loose lead walking around distractions

  • Preventing resource guarding

  • Co-operative care

  • Trick training

If you have particular concerns or areas you would like to cover additional to the above, we may be able to cover it in class if other members would also find it useful. Otherwise, it can be addressed during a private session.
